He had an exhilarating career that spanned for nearly two decades. Off the field, he’s recognised for his vibrant personality and extravagant lifestyle.

Maradona met his wife Claudia Villafane when she was just a 17 year old girl. He married his long-time fiancee in 1989. Claudia was born in 1962. She’s a famous TV personality and producer based out of Buenos Aires.

Who was Maradona’s Wife?

Maradona’s (ex) wife’s name is Claudia Villafane. She’s the daughter of Ana María Elía and Roque Nicolás Villafañe. Known world-wide for tying the knot with Diego Maradona (who she met at 17 years of age), Claudia Villafane lives in Villa Fiorito, Buenos Aires.

In 1999, Villafañe made a participation of herself in the telenovela Muñeca brava starring Natalia Oreiro and Facundo Arana. Later on, she was invited to several entertainment programs. The major ones were: Sábado bus, Susana Giménez, Escape perfecto, La caula de la moda, Pasapalabra, Caiga Quien Caiga, Fútbol para todos, Morfi, todos a la mesa, Como ring al finger, among others.

Claudia managed numerous Maradona businesses. During that time, she lived in Naples, Italy. In 2003, she produced the play “Pijamas” with Fabián Gianola, Mario Pasik, Victoria Onetto, Anita Martínez, Luciana Salazar and Jorge Taiana. Two years later, she participated in Maradona’s program La Noche del 10, on El Trece.

In the year 2008, Claudia participated in the tribute documentary Maradona. It was by the Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica. The documentary was based on the life of Maradona.

Maradona’s wife got married to Estadio Luna Park

On 7th November 1989, Claudia got married to Estadio Luna Park. She wore a dress that was designed by Elsa Serrano. Later, she got pregnant. From this intense and also stormy relationship – and being pregnant with her first daughter, Dalma, she learned on television that Maradona had become the father of Diego Sinagra who was born to Cristiana Sinagra.

However, Maradona denied paternity. But justice forced him to give the young boy his surname. He continued to deny it for more than 30 years. Maradona denied it to his wife, to his daughters, to his own son and to any journalist who would ask. Claudia then moved on with the couple. At age two, she gave birth to her second daughter Gianinna.

Claudia filed a divorce against Maradona on 7 March 1998 for abandoning home. They were married 13 years. She claimed custody of their daughters, Dalma and Gianina. Both were 15 and 12 at that time.

In 2017, after 10 years of dating, she announced her relationship with businessman and actor Jorge Taiana.

Controversies of Maradona’s Wife, Claudia Villafañe

In 2015, Maradona sued Villafañe for alleged fraud, fraud and embezzlement. Due to the popularity of the Maradona v. Claudia case, the foreign media covered the case. In July 2020, after a court ruling, the dismissal of said case against her ex-husband was revoked. In 2020, the series Maradona: Blessed Dream was made. The series is available on Amazon Prime Video!

Her daughter played the role of the lead actress. Her character was played by actresses Laura Natalia Esquivel (as Claudia when she was young) and Julieta Cardinali (in her adult life). On that occasion, Claudia furnished a series of notes. She did so to say that she’d sent a document letter to the producers of the series, Amazon Prime Video and BTF Media. Because they did not ask her or her family for permission to use their identities.
