FIFA World Cup 2026

As we all might know, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is going to be held in North America– the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Well apparently, North America is a ginormous land mass with plenty of cities that are willing to host matches.

Matches will be played in central stadiums within the cities.

“Today is a historic day for everyone in those cities and states, for FIFA, for Canada, the U.S.A, and Mexico who will put on the greatest show on Earth,” stated FIFA president Gianni Infantino who also announced the host cities on June 16, 2022. “We look forward to working together with them to deliver what will be an unprecedented FIFA World Cup and a game-changer as we strive to make football truly global.”

Infantino also revealed that the reason behind selecting a various batch of 16 cities to host the tournaments is to produce soccer more attainable for children in various places, to develop billions in remuneration  across these areas, and to recognize  “dreams for millions of people.” Extending the number of squads participating in the biggest events from the usual 32 to 48 for the first time in history was also part of that technique.

The event will be the 2nd time the US has hosted the men’s World Cup (which the US hosted in 1994). This will be the first time for Canada to host the World Cup and the third time for Mexico (hosted in 1970 and 1986). While the three countries Mexico, the USA, and Canada will qualify for the 2026 World Cup by default, it’s difficult to predict who the top 5 contenders are.

Nonetheless, we have mentioned the list of the top 5 contenders for FIFA 2026.

  • Brazil

We’re not surprised to find Brazil securing the top position because the Brazilian National Team is the most successful squad in football history and has the most World Cup wins. Despite Brazil not being a successful squad in Copa America, producing legendary players like  Pele, Ronaldo, Romario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho has not been a problem for this team. Although these legends will forever remain in our hearts.

Once new talented players join in and the Brazilian squad gains enough experience they truly will be unstoppable.

  • Spain

The Spaniards are another favorites to compete in the final rounds of the 2026 World Cup. They won their first World Cup in 2010 and were two-time European Championship winners in 2008 and 1964.

As seen in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the Spaniards have so many young talented players that have emerged, for example, Gavi and Pedri. Both their performances in the tournament have mesmerized plenty of us. If this team continues to evolve they’re going to be a powerful opponent.

  • France

France has produced many legendary players like Zinedine Zidane, Patrick Viera, Fabian Barthez, Samir Nasri, and Michel Platini.

Although in the past, France was considered a strong team, however, if we look at it now many see them as no longer an elite squad. But it’s proving to be wrong as the team has produced a modern-era top-class player Kylian Mbappe and France will continue to produce players like him in the future.

  • England

England has always been a big threat in International Tournaments. Nonetheless, if we were to talk about success, luck doesn’t favor them.

However, the English team has one of the finest football leagues on the planet and has produced some great players like Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, and Allan Shearer. We are yet to see greater things from them as they proceed to rise.

  • Germany

The German national squad has experienced plenty of triumph throughout its history. They have won four World Cups and have the most European championships wins alongside Spain with three.

Although they’ve had their fair share of defeats and disappointments, the Germans will surely be back stronger than ever.
