Who is Micah Parsons?
Micah Parsons is a professional American football linebacker. He began his career as a middle linebacker instead of defensive end, as he had played in high school. Despite being a true freshman, Parsons was vying for the starting position.
Despite playing in just one of the Nittany Lions’ thirteen games as a freshman, Parsons led the team in tackles (82), made four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, ten quarterback hurries, and two forced fumbles. As a freshman, he became the first Nittany Lion ever to lead the team in tackles.
After junior linebacker Cam Brown was punished for a rule violation, Parsons started as an outside linebacker at Rutgers University. Parsons recorded seven tackles, including two for loss and a strip sack. In the 2019 Citrus Bowl, he recorded 14 tackles (one for loss) and a strip sack against the University of Kentucky. Wide receiver Rondale Moore was the winner of the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award, with him coming in second.
Parsons was added to the Butkus Award preseason watch list before the commencement of his sophomore campaign. At middle linebacker, he started 12 of the 13 games and finished with 109 tackles, 14 of which were for loss, five sacks, 26 quarterback hurries, five passes deflected, and four forced fumbles.
After that, Parsons was selected as a unanimous All-American and the Butkus–Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year (awarded to the Big Ten Linebacker of the Year).
