worst football stadiums

A bad environment can be caused by a variety of factors. The number of people in the stadium makes a big impact; regardless of how enthusiastic the fans are, a 50,000-seat stadium with just 10,000 people in it is unlikely to be particularly loud. Similarly, even if a stadium is crowded to capacity, fans must be vociferous in order to generate a positive mood. There’s also the issue of stadium acoustics and the like. Here are the 5 worst football stadiums.

Rungrado May Day Stadium

Rungrado May Day Stadium

With a 150,000-person capacity, this stadium is the biggest stadium on earth. Although North Korea typically fills the stadium for its football matches, it would seem that fan culture and the concept of coordinated chants have not yet made their way to the isolated country. Even with 150,000 spectators present, the stadium is virtually silent for the majority of the game. This soccer stadium is unlike any other outside of North Korea, and it is rather bizarre to see.

Ricoh Arena

Ricoh Arena

You will undoubtedly have some of the oddest encounters at a soccer stadium, and the Ricoh Arena is no exception. Despite having a 32,609 capacity, it nevertheless seems larger when you look at the rows upon rows of vacant seats on match days. Given how quiet the Ricoh Arena is, it is not exaggerating to state that you can really hear someone yell from the opposite end of the field. The Ricoh is without a doubt the worst stadium in Football since the team averaged only 2,300 spectators per game in the 2013–14 season, rising to 9,000 the previous season but still being less than a third of the capacity.

Stade de la Meinau

Stade de la Meinau

One may anticipate that Alsace would have a somewhat respectable soccer team given its population of nearly 1.8 million. Unfortunately, the region’s instability has determined their fate; the team has changed nationalities and, consequently, leagues three times. The team enjoyed a golden age in the late 1970s, winning Ligue 1 in 1979. However, due to financial problems, they were recently demoted to the third division of French football, where they are present. The 29,230-capacity Stade de la Meinau, where they have played since 1914, seems empty and nearly quiet due to the club’s average attendance of only 6,355.

The Emirates

The Emirates

Arsenal fans are frequently subjected to mocking from English football fans.  Highbury had a better ambiance than Arsenal’s current stadium, the Emirates. The Emirates is a superb structure, possibly the greatest soccer stadium in the United Kingdom, especially given its low construction cost. The simple issue is that Arsenal fans aren’t particularly loud. Even when away from home, the Gunners’ fan base is underwhelming, thus the Emirates Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 60,260, is always likely to be among the quietest in the Premier League despite frequently being full.

Santiago Bernabeu

Santiago Bernabeu

If you have seen Real Madrid play in El Classico, you might be forgiven for believing Los Blancos had excellent support. The Bernabeu is generally quiet for most league games that do not include Barcelona or Atletico Madrid, and their fans are eager to get on the players’ backs.
