Trace McSorley

The New England Patriots have released quarterback Trace McSorley, per a source.

McSorley, 27, was signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in April after spending the previous two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He had previously spent his rookie season with the Baltimore Ravens.

In four NFL seasons, McSorley has appeared in two games, completing 10 of 17 passes for 79 yards. He has also rushed for 21 yards.

The Patriots currently have Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe as their top two quarterbacks. McSorley’s release leaves them with one open spot on their 90-man roster.

McSorley is a talented quarterback who has shown flashes of potential. However, he has struggled to get on the field in the NFL. He will now look to find a new team where he can compete for a starting job.

The Patriots’ decision to release McSorley is a sign that they are confident in Jones and Zappe as their quarterbacks of the future. They are also likely looking to add another veteran quarterback to the roster, such as Jimmy Garoppolo or Ryan Fitzpatrick.
