He led the Jets to one AFL championship and one Super Bowl during his five AFL seasons, and he was twice named the league’s MVP and leader in passing yards. Both triumphs continue to be the Jets’ lone championships.
Namath joined the NFL with the Jets after the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, and in the 1972 season, he led the league in passing yards and touchdowns. He played with the New York Giants for seven more seasons before joining the Los Angeles Rams for his final campaign.
