Harmanpreet Kaur: Biography and Career

Harmanpreet Kaur was born on March 8, 1989. She is an Indian cricketer who is the current captain of the India Women’s National Cricket Team in all setups. She is an all-rounder for the Indian women’s cricket squad. She was the recipient of the Arjuna Award for Cricket in 2017 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Scoring a century in the Women’s Twenty20 International r(WT20I), Kaur became the first woman cricketer to achieve the milestone in November 2018. She also became the first Indian cricketer, man or woman to participate in hundred international Twenty20 games during the series against South Africa in October 2019.

Kaur also led India to win the series in Australia in January 2016 as well as managed to score a thirty-one ball forty-six runs in India’s highest-ever runs in T20 internationals. She proceeded with her performance in the 2016 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 where she managed to score eighty-nine chases and grabbed 7  wickets in about 4 matches. To put it, Kaur is considered one of the finest all-rounders in India’s women’s cricket team.

Harmanpreet Kaur: Early Life and Family

Hailing from Moga, Punjab, Kaur was born to parents Harmandar Singh Bullar and Satwinder Kaur. Her father Harmandar also played volleyball and basketball during his younger days and although he was once highly interested in becoming a cricketer, he gave up on his dreams due to unavoidable affairs. Harmandar now works as an attached clerk with an advocate at Moga District Court while her mother Satwinder is a homemaker. Kaur was raised in a baptized Sikhs family. She also has a younger sister named Hemjeet Kaur, a postgraduate in English who currently works as an asst. professor at Guru Nanak College in Moga.

Kaur did her early education at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. After finishing her 12th standard, she admitted herself to a college somewhere in Jalandhar to receive her graduation. But she had to drop out of college after her 1st year as her semester exam dates conflicted with the cricket matches and the principal of the college failed to fulfill her requests. Following this, she enrolled herself in another college at Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut for her graduation in arts through distance learning from 2009-11. After receiving her graduation, she enrolled for post-graduation at a different university. But she failed to complete her education due to overseas matches. 

Harmanpreet Kaur Fake Degree Controversy

According to various reports, the cricketer was downgraded from her job by higher authorities of the Punjab Police, after the university she attended, Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut revealed that Harmanpreet’s enrollment registration number was fake.

She later addressed this issue in one of her interviews saying: “When you did your graduation, did you go to the head office to verify your enrollment number? Nobody does that. I did exactly the same thing. If I am playing, my focus is obviously on cricket. Apart from that, I just wanted to complete my graduation. On the basis of my graduation certificate, I took admission to a post-graduation course at a different university but could never take my exams because of overseas tournaments. Today, that very degree is being called fake.”

As of now, it looks like the Indian cricketer is not dating anyone. However, nothing can be said at this point as she, like most public figures prefers to keep their love life private and away from the limelight. There are many who are curious about Kaur’s love life and even though she’ll be turning 34 this March, she is not married yet and is not in a relationship although she may be keeping it a secret. It’s too soon to jump into conclusions as nothing has been made official.
