richest swimmers

We have heard of many athletes winning big at world events but this time, we are particularly going to mention swimmers and how much they earn. So rounding up below are the Top 7 richest swimmers in 2022.

  • Michael Phelps ($55 million)

Michael Phelps

Everyone probably might have heard his name somewhere right? Well because he’s the only athlete with the most Olympic medals in the world. Whenever Phelps participated in any games or championships he would always make headlines by breaking multiple records. The former swimmer has 28 Olympic medals with a record for winning 23 golds. He also won 13 Olympic gold medals in individual events and 16 other Olympic medals in individual events. Phelps is truly considered one of the greatest swimmers of all time and has a current net worth of $55 million.

Keeping aside his explosive success in swimming, Phelps proceeds to make headlines through public appearances and various marketing sponsorships.

  • Mark Spitz ($20 million)

Mark Spitz

It’s no surprise Mark Spitz’s name pops up in your mind when you think about some of the richest swimmers although his reign was mostly back in the 70s. He may be long retired now but his net worth is deserving of a second spot on this list as it is estimated at $20 million. Spitz was considered one of the best swimmers of that generation. He won seven Olympic gold medals in Munich, Germany, and that’s how his career took off by storm. Spitz was the third-ever athlete to win nine Olympic gold medals.

After retiring from his profession, the former professional swimmer made appearances on the screen, acting in many TV shows, in commercials, and as a sports announcer.

He also does multiple speaking appearances around the globe every year. He makes around $30,000 to $50,000 for a single appearance. He also opened a real estate company and functions as a stock broker.

  • Ryan Lochte ($13 million)

Ryan Lochte

Ryan Lochte may have raked in the cash during his time as a professional swimmer but in his current state, we can not say the same thing about him. Back in his glory days, his net worth was estimated at $13 million and he used to earn over $2 million annually from deals such as Speedo, Gillette, Ralph Lauren, and Gatorade. He has won 12 Olympic medals and is second only to Michael Phelps and is regarded as one of the most successful swimmers.

  • Sarah Sjöström ($12 million)

Swedish swimmer Sarah Sjöström is keeping up well when it comes to marketing deals and prize cash paths. She is estimated at $12 million and similar to Great Britain, Sweden does not pay a hefty amount for winning medals. But fortunately, Sarah conquers the global course and earns quite a lot of prize money.

During the 2018 World Cup championship, Sarah raked in $250,000. And in the 2019 world tournaments,  she earned about $70,000 in prize money, and in the ISL 2020 seas, Sara earned about $174,000.
