The whereabouts of wide receiver Stefon Diggs was the main topic of conversation as the Bills’ minicamp began on Tuesday morning.

Following the statement made by Bills head coach Sean McDermott that he was “very concerned” that Diggs had not reported to the team’s facility, Diggs’ agent claimed that his client was present, and the Bills subsequently confirmed that Diggs had reported in the morning before departing the facility before practice. The reason for Diggs’ absence from practice was not explained by the club or Diggs, and later that day, quarterback Josh Allen’s news conference focused only on Diggs’ absence.

Allen claimed to have spoken to Diggs on Tuesday and emphasised how much he enjoys playing with the wideout while also providing some insight into the situation.

We’re working on a few things internally, Allen remarked. Not linked to football. Stef is his man. he is in love with him. He is one of his brothers. Without him, what they are doing here does not function.

Later in the press conference, when questioned about the remark that it was “not football-related,” Allen explained that the problems have “more to do than just football” and was about “teamwork.” When asked if Diggs’ problems from after the team’s playoff defeat to the Bengals was connected to the present problems, Allen said he didn’t know, but he was optimistic that “we’re going to work it out.”

There are things he could do more effectively to aid in this process and work to get Buffalo Bill back home so he may fulfil his potential. Some things might have gone better last year but didn’t, according to Allen. “Perhaps we’re not always communicating well as a company, in my opinion. Just trying to move things through as swiftly and gently as I can while talking and listening at the same time, hearing him out.”

Although Allen insisted repeatedly that he loves Diggs and that there is no need to worry about his absence given that the first game is still months away, it was clear from his 11-minute press conference that there is still work to be done in Buffalo for everyone to be on the same page as they prepare for the 2023 season.
