Following the Wednesday news of Toni Kroos’ contract extension, Real Madrid has now formally announced that Nacho Fernandez has signed a new contract with the team through 2024.

Nacho’s previous contract was set to end on June 30 just like Kroos’s did. Additionally, there was considerable scepticism regarding his deal because the player had been dissatisfied with the amount of playing time he had gotten the previous season.

However, the Spanish international has ultimately chosen to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu for one additional year, maintaining his reputation as a one-club guy.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Nacho Fernández have agreed to extend the contract of our captain, who remains linked to the club until 30 June 2024,” the official statement read.

Nacho joined Real Madrid in 2001 at the age of 11 and has been a member of the team for more than 20 years. He made his debut appearance on the first team over ten years ago, and since then, he has made 319 appearances and won 23 championships.

Nacho will serve as the team’s first captain for the next season after Karim Benzema departed the organisation this summer. Nacho will look to improve his team’s performance following a lacklustre 2022–23 season.
