With Eric Bieniemy as his new offensive coordinator, Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is soaking up all the knowledge he can about the offence Bieniemy ran in Kansas City for the previous five years.

Howell claims that working with Bieniemy and studying the Chief’s offences on his own had helped him evolve as a player throughout the offseason.

“I feel like I’m a lot better,” Howell said, via ESPN. “Once I knew we had E.B. [Bieniemy] I was watching Kansas City film and seeing what they were doing. I was able to match up my footwork.”

Howell will convey the plays to his teammates on the field while Bieniemy calls them over the speakers in his helmet for the Commanders. Howell’s play-calling has been studied and recorded by the Commanders throughout offseason practice, with Bieniemy giving feedback on how effectively he conveys the plays to his teammates.

“It’s something I’ve really never heard before,” Howell said. “Coach EB says it all the time, to overcommunicate clarity. Just saying one more word, one more code word that means something they need to hear.”

Howell claims that in order to make sure he is thoroughly practised in calling plays accurately, he has spent as much as an hour a day simply repeating plays. He wants Bieniemy’s offence for the Commanders to function as normally as possible.
