James Maddison of Leicester is now being pursued by Newcastle, who is currently ahead of Tottenham.
The offensive midfielder, who only has one year remaining on his contract, is a target for both teams this summer.
Newcastle were interested in the 26-year-old during the January transfer window but Leicester refused to part with him.
But now that they have been demoted, the Foxes are open to proposals.
Newcastle, who have long been fans of him, can provide him with Champions League football.
Tottenham, though, could formally express their interest now that Ange Postecoglou has been named head coach.
Spurs and Postecoglou are currently deliberating whether players will stay or depart in order to accomplish the necessary overhaul of the team this summer.
Maddison is among a number of Leicester players who are anticipated to go, along with winger Harvey Barnes.
