In this post, we’ve assembled a list of players who have gained quite a reputation for all the wrong reasons on or off the pitch, not just among some parts of fans or clubs but from the whole footballing world.
Here are the top 5 most hated football players in the world.
-
Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo
Without a doubt, Ronaldo is easily considered one of the greatest players but do you also know that he is a good diver and very arrogant? This is why he is placed at #1 on our list.
CR7 is famously known for being a bad-tempered player who frequently clashes with his teammates, opponents, referees, fans, and even the coach which has earned him quite a few yellow cards and red cards for his questionable attitude throughout his career.
Ronaldo earned his reputation while he was playing for Manchester United, so it is no wonder why he has a massive amount of hatred against him because no matter what he does, he always attracts criticism.

Brazil’s Neymar
Neymar is a player who spreads out opinion, but it is unassailable to declare that a whole lot of football fans hate him, and just because he has netted against their squads.
Despite the digit of fouls he pulls, Neymar is famously known for his diving skills on the pitch, exaggerating physical touch, and squirming in simulated discomfort before continuing to be fully fine the next few minutes and back at the top of his game.
The Brazilian star’s questionable behavior first became evident in 2010 when his confrontation with the well-known Santos manager, Dorival Junior, eventually resulted in the manager being doomed. Neymar throughout his career, proceeded to look down on players, referees, and coaches, earning him too many red cards. After spending four years with Barcelona he moved to PSG in 2017 which takes part in the less competitive French league. His transfer seemed to have involved more money than more footballing motives.
Lastly, Neymar is a stubbornly selfish player who only appears to be more interested in individual gains rather than his teams. These decisions can cost his squads and aggravate fans.

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez
Luis Suarez… Now, where do we even begin? For a lot of fans, the Uruguayan footballer first gained his hateful reputation when he intentionally hand-balled to prevent the ball from scoring a goal during the 2010 World Cup against Ghana. Another infamous incident took place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup when Suarez was indicated to have bitten a player of an opposing team named Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, which led him to his suspension by FIFA for four months.
After Suarez moved to the Premier League, he was constantly charged with diving after winning several penalties for Liverpool. And in case you didn’t know, the biting incident at the 2014 World Cup isn’t the first one. In 2013 during a match against Chelsea, the Uruguayan bit Branislav Ivanovich and the rest is history but all for the wrong reasons though.

England’s Raheem Sterling
When Raheem Sterling was just 20 years old, he was fast to snatch the cash and ditch the team that let him become a star (Liverpool). After originally rejecting the refinements of Manchester City, the English player Liverpool was compelled to be moved away when he seemed to simulate a sickness to avoid training. This made the fans furious was booed on the pitch.
Sterling is also famously known as an ill-tempered player. One instance was when he was seen grabbing the neck of his English squad mate Joe Gomez in 2019. He was later dropped by the team.
Lastly, let’s not forget his diving skills, because why not?! If there’s an award for the best diving, he would surely be up there at the top.

Spain’s Sergio Ramos
Sergio Ramos has had a lengthy and reputed career as he was famously known as Real Madrid’s nastiest player when he was still a part of the club. Ramos is also well known for being a bad-tempered wretch and hard-tackling defender and has the habit of kicking and shoving his opponents from netting the ball. This resulted in many of the football fans hating him.
