According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, free agent guard Max Strus has agreed to a four-year, $63 million deal with the Cavaliers as part of a three-team sign-and-trade with the Heat, Cavaliers, and Spurs.
In return for Strus, Cleveland will send Cedi Osman, Lamar Stevens, and a second-round selection to the Spurs and a second-round pick to the Heat.
Strus has played an important role in Miami’s rotation for the past couple of seasons, which culminated in his contribution to the Heat’s NBA Finals appearance last month. Strus became the newest success story for Erik Spoelstra and the Heat in terms of player development, averaging a career-high 11.5 points per game.
Strus has now received a career-changing payday as a result of his growth from an undrafted free agent to an important NBA rotation member. Strus started each postseason game for the Heat for the second straight year. The DePaul product has a career three-point percentage of 37.1%, which helps Cleveland cross off a major summer goal of adding more outside shooting to its rotation.
The Cavaliers have had a busy start to free agency; in addition to the Strus deal, they also reached a deal with Georges Niang and re-signed Caris LeVert, who will stay in Cleveland on a two-year deal.
