After the interval, Lautaro Martnez had the first opportunity, but Ederson narrowly denied him, and City didn’t score until well over 20 minutes had passed.
The game appeared to be headed for overtime until Rodri scored an outstanding goal from well inside the penalty area to give the Citizens their first-ever Champions League title and an unprecedented triple.
After Foden was denied by André Onana as he had a chance to extend City’s lead, Inter’s Federico Di Marco struck the crossbar with a header and had his rebound blocked by teammate Romelu Lukaku.
In the 89th minute, Lukaku had a great opportunity to tie the game, but Ederson somehow stopped him when his header struck the Brazilian’s standing leg.
Ederson stopped a late header from a corner in the last five minutes to help City secure a memorable victory and the triple, becoming just the second English team to win the league title, Champions League, and FA Cup in the same season.
Following in the footsteps of city rivals Manchester United, who accomplished the same feat in 1999, City is well on its way to accomplishing it after defeating United in the FA Cup final last weekend.
