Mahmoud Dahoud’s departure from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign was always anticipated. The midfielder will now join Brighton & Hove Albion on a four-year contract, the club has confirmed. Dahoud is ready to take on a new challenge in the English Premier League after spending six seasons with the Black and Yellows.

After Sebastian Kehl confirmed in February that Dahoud’s contract will not be renewed, a number of teams expressed interest in signing him. However, Brighton & Hove Albion has prevailed in the battle for his services. The 27-year-old is anticipated to join the Brighton team in Alexis Mac Allister’s place after the latter’s transfer to Liverpool.

High hopes accompanied Mahmoud Dahoud’s 2017 transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach to Borussia Dortmund. He eventually succeeded in establishing himself as a prominent player for BVB under Edin Terzic in 2021 after a few years of uneven play. His development was, however, halted by back-to-back shoulder injuries, and he was unable to rejoin the team’s plans.

Dahoud made 141 appearances for Borussia Dortmund in all, contributing 17 assists in addition to five goals.

A lot will depend on Dahoud’s performance in England. Brighton & Hove Albion, which finished sixth in the English Premier League standings in the just-concluded season, will also participate in the UEFA Europa League the following year.
