The Jets’ first two first-round choices in 2022 made significant contributions, while the third one did not have the same effect.

Although edge rusher Jermaine Johnson didn’t immediately break into the starting lineup as Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner did, he did manage to secure a rotational spot in his debut campaign. With 29 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a punt blocked that led to a safety, he had a successful season.

Johnson said he feels “insanely more comfortable” going into his second season and that he is ready to make a leap on the field as the team’s offseason practises drew to a conclusion.

“I just feel day and night in terms of explosiveness. Explosiveness, technique, building my body, stuff like that. Just old school, you know. Just in the weight room all the time, eating, making sure I’m good. We like to make jokes. I just had a daughter, so now I have the father strength they call it or whatnot. But I’m just seeing crazy changes right now, it’s making me very excited and I know everyone else in the building is excited because when I’m at my best, I know it’s just going to help the team.”

Johnson said during OTAs.

When the Jets selected Will McDonald in the first round of this year’s draught, they added another edge rusher to the mix. Having more young guys succeed this season would help the defence become ferocious once more.
