Romelu Lukaku of Chelsea is reportedly being considered by Inter Milan, according to the Italian tabloid Tuttosport via FCInterNews. According to reports, the 30-year-old Belgian international has indicated a desire to rejoin Inter for the upcoming campaign, and Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi is eager to do so.
Inter first tried to negotiate another loan agreement with Chelsea, but the Blues were not interested in the proposal. Chelsea would want to get rid of Lukaku permanently, and they are open to hearing offers between €40 and €45 million. While the remaining three years of Lukaku’s contract are still amortised in Chelsea’s balance sheet for €68 million, the team is willing to take a capital loss to unload the player and reduce his salary.
Although Lukaku has drawn interest from AC Milan and Al-Hilal, he has no desire to join either team. Lukaku is focused on going back to Inter and anticipates an agreement between the two teams. To make the relocation easier, he is even prepared to lower his pay.
To close the deal before Lukaku returns from vacation in the middle of June, Inter Milan wants to make another bid for the player soon. The club can think about offering an initial loan contract with a commitment to buy Lukaku outright at the end of the loan spell as a compromise. Chelsea would have the guarantee of a long-term transfer and the targeted sum under this scenario.
Players like Andre Onana, Marcelo Brozovic, and Robin Gosens may be sold by Inter Milan to raise money to satisfy Chelsea’s demands. The outcome of the talks between the two organisations will determine whether Lukaku’s return to Inter is possible for the forthcoming campaign.
