When a team speaks to a player at a specific position, the other players at that position will unavoidably be questioned about it, provided that they are available to reporters.
Given the zero-sum aspect of creating a roster and choosing a line-up, some of them might not be interested in putting out the red carpet.
DeVante Parker, a Patriots receiver, didn’t appear too excited to talk about DeAndre Hopkins’ visit to New England, maybe because of this.
Here is the conversation, as relayed by Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna:
Parker responded, that, he is just focusing on themselves right now when questioned about Hopkins. Superb athlete. But just now, all his attention is on themselves.
When asked if Parker had ever met Hopkins, Parker said, “Focused on us.”
Could you provide a hand to the receiving group? Parker said, “Focus on us. Next question.
Parker reminded him that the question primarily concerned “us,” and he said, “I know. Next question.
Players for the Patriots speaking very little or nothing is not unusual. There is nothing to say in this instance. If Hopkins shows up, a player from the roster is removed. And someone who might have otherwise participated in games will not.
