The Indianapolis Colts are taking a risk by utilising the NFL’s alternative helmet regulation to establish a brand-new tradition for their illustrious team. The Colts just introduced their new alternative uniform, and the stunning black helmet—a change from their customary white shell—is the main element.
On October 22, during a home game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 7, the alternative uniform, appropriately dubbed “Indiana Nights,” will make its debut. When examined closely, the new attire differs from the traditional all-blue colour rush outfits of past seasons while still retaining their iconic aesthetic.
The jersey and trousers still have the team’s signature blue colour in their entirety, but they now also feature a “Heather” material that adds a minor yet noticeable variety. Two horizontal stripes across the shoulder pads, which match the traditional piping down the trousers, are additional highlights. The Colts’ secondary logo, which was unveiled before the 2020 season, is prominently displayed on the front shoulder of the new suit.
The adoption of the black helmet, which departs from the team’s customary white shell, is one of the biggest alterations. The iconic blue horseshoe emblem of the Colts is still present overall, but it now has white trim around it and a blue stripe running down the middle to distinguish it from the black backdrop. The helmet is adorned with a black facemask to complete the distinctive appearance.
Following the NFL’s approval of its comeback before the 2022 season, the decision to adopt a new backup helmet was made. Many clubs have already benefited from this rule by wearing substitute helmets to pay respect to famous prior helmets and kits.
The Colts, on the other hand, have kept their uniforms mostly the same since 1953, making “Indiana Nights” a novel and exciting tradition for the club and its supporters. The Colts are hoping that this daring decision will start a prosperous and illustrious chapter in the franchise’s history when they take the field in their new alternative jersey.
