Although Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson excused the majority of veterans from the team’s obligatory minicamp, wide receiver Calvin Ridley is there, and Pederson lauded Ridley for his attitude during the summer.
After taking a mental health leave from the Falcons and getting suspended for all of 2022 for betting on games while in that absence, Ridley hasn’t played since Week Six of the 2021 season. Ridley, according to Pederson, has demonstrated a dedication to the Jaguars and to acting ethically at all times.
Pederson said that he appreciates Ridley’s open and honest communication transparency with the team and himself. He also made a point to stay honest with every player, especially a veteran like Ridley. Pederson stated that Ridley wishes to continue and is going nowhere.
In his last season, 2020, Ridley, who the Falcons selected in the first round out of Alabama in 2018, had 90 receptions for 1,374 yards. He’ll be one of the biggest new additions to any NFL team for the 2023 season if he can perform at that level again this year. According to Pederson, Ridley is advancing in the right direction.
