Eric Washington gets promoted by the Bills to assistant head coach but keeps his position as defensive line coach.
The Buffalo Bills have elevated defensive line coach Eric Washington to associate head coach. He joined the team in 2020. Washington will continue to direct the defensive line in addition to his new responsibilities, the club said on Wednesday.
Before being promoted, Washington served as a senior defensive assistant. With Sean McDermott now serving as the Bills’ defensive coordinator for the next season, Washington’s new title implies that he will support McDermott in handling numerous responsibilities.
Washington spent two years as the Carolina Panther’s defensive coordinator and seven years as their defensive line coach before joining the Bills. He has worked at Northwestern University and the Chicago Bears, adding a plethora of knowledge to his coaching position.
The elevation demonstrates the Bills’ faith in Washington’s ability to lead and his contributions to the defence success of the squad. Washington’s new responsibilities as assistant head coach will help McDermott and the coaching staff as they work to develop a solid defence for the Bills as they get ready for the next season.
