By Arsenal supporters believe they have found a significant error on the team’s brand-new home jersey for the 2023–24 season.
The golden outlined top has been a big hit thus far after being shown to fans in May after months of leaks and concept drawings floating about. The gilded edges are there as a tribute to the Invincibles, 20 years after their record-breaking and as of this point unmatched run of going the entire season undefeated.
“Our new kit draws on the spirit of The Invincibles team of 2003/04, marking the beginning of the 20th anniversary of our unbeaten Premier League season,” a statement said on the club’s official website. “Our crest and Adidas logo and three stripes down each sleeve feature in gold, and our record of 26 wins and 12 draws over 38 games in that historic season is stitched into the side of the authentic version of the kit.
“Twenty years on from that incredible achievement, we aim to carry forward the values, spirit and togetherness of the 2003/04 squad.”
Despite this, the response to the garment was initially excessively favourable. After being worn in the 5-0 victory over Wolves on the last day of the season at the Emirates Stadium, it also boasts a 100% win record for the team. However, upon closer examination, astute spectators discovered a mistake.
Six of the undefeated games are missing from the 38-game league season’s results, as pointed out by Twitter user @arstaoly. The 26 victories and 12 draws during the campaign are represented by a series of Ws and Ds, however, the whole results list is missing.
It has been determined that the season’s final four games are absent, along with two victories from a run of nine games amid the season. Several fans have reported identical problems with shirts ranging in size from extra big to tiny, proving that it is not only a sizing issue.
